In the Spring of 2006, Dr. Coyle worked with the public schools in Kingfisher, Oklahoma to evaluate the efficacy of the UBMT behavior training software. The software was installed in elementary, middle school and high school classrooms. No other notable changes or interventions occurred during the evaluation period. Compared to the same time period in the previous year, referrals for behavior problems decreased by as much as 20% in each school setting. Teachers and administrators commented that the software was easy to understand and to use in the classroom. Students indicated that they did not like to complete the negative consequences on the computer. These findings are consistent with the hundreds of research studies supporting the use of the techniques contained in the UBMT software packages.

Empirical Support for the Elements of the Ultimate Behavior Management Tool-Tranquility:
The UBMT software was developed based on years of clinical experience combined with an analysis of decades of empirical research on effective behavior modification and management techniques. While by no means exhaustive, the following documents and resources offer ample evidence for the efficacy of every single element incorporated in the UBMT series of software tools.
Element One--Evidence for the efficacy of individual behavior change through the use of applied behavioral analysis: Applicable UBMT-Tranquility Components--Behavior Management Tutorial and Individual Behavior Plan Charting Functions.
Decades of empirically based and peer-reviewed research fully establishes that significant decreases and increases in a wide variety of individual behaviors can be reliably accomplished using applied learning theory. In part for this reason, Special Education law has evolved in the past decade to require that any identified special education student who demonstrates behaviors that interfere with his or her learning must be provided with a Functional Behavioral Assessment (Analysis) and individualized behavioral interventions to teach and reinforce more appropriate behaviors. The UBMT-Tranquility software provides tools that are simple and easily applied even in busy school settings. The structure of the text and clear format of the Functional Behavior Assessment tools allow teachers, counselors and administrators to very quickly formulate and use this rather complex process. The articles listed below represent a very small portion of the research literature that clearly demonstrates the ways in which the techniques taught and incorporated in the UBMT software are safe and effective.
Dadson, S., &
Horner, R. (1993). Manipulating setting events to decrease
problem behaviors. TEACHING Exceptional Children, 25,
53-55.
Element Two--Evidence for the efficacy of Cost/Response interventions for decreasing undesirable behavior in school-age children and adolescents: Applicable UBMT-Tranquility Components--Negative Consequences and Individual Behavior Plan Charting Functions.
The UBMT-Tranquility Negative Consequences are in essence computer-based versions of negative consequences that have been used in the classroom and home for decades to correct inappropriate behaviors. The UBMT Software IMPROVES THESE TRIED AND TRUE METHODS PRIMARILY BY MAKING IT VERY EASY FOR THE ADULT USER TO SET INDIVIDUALIZED PUNISHMENTS THAT CAN BE ADMINISTERED IN RESPONSE TO BEHAVIORS IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE BEHAVIORS OCCUR. THIS PREVENTS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON PROBLEMS IN CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT: THE UNINTENTIONAL REWARDING OF BEHAVIOR INSTEAD OF PUNISHING. TRADITIONALLY, WHEN A CHILD MISBEHAVES TO THE POINT OF REQUIRING A NEGATIVE PERFORMANCE CONSEQUENCE, THE TEACHER SENDS THE CHILD TO THE HALLWAY OR TO THE ADMINSTRATORS OFFICE. THIS UNFORTUNATELY MAKES THE NEGATIVE BEHAVIOR MORE LIKELY IN THE FUTURE THROUGH IMMEDIATE NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT, THE REMOVAL OF DISTRESSING CONDITIONS. THE PUNISHMENT OF HAVING TO SIT OUTSIDE OR BE REPRIMANDED BY THE ADMINSTRATOR IS HEAVILY OUTWEIGHED BY THE NOVELTY OF CHANGING SETTINGS, INTERACTING WITH OTHERS, MOVING THROUGH THE HALLWAYS AND ESCAPING FROM CLASSROOM ROUTINE. The UBMT-Tranquility software Negative Consequences functions offer flexibility and are adaptable to children at different developmental levels. The tasks are all completely safe and respectful of all user's rights when used as directed in the Tutorial. The following articles provide a small selection of the ample research that demonstrates the efficacy of using negative consequences in addition to positive reinforcement of appropriate behaviors in creating long-lasting positive behavioral change.

Goldstein, S.E., Tisak, M.S. (2003). Children's judgments about
common classroom punishments. Educational Research. Vol.
45(2). Summer 2003. pp 189-198.
Element Three--Evidence for the efficacy of consistent school and district wide positive behavior supports and interventions: Applicable UBMT-Tranquility Components--Behavior Management Tutorial, Negative Consequences and Individual Behavior Plan Charting Functions.
The UBMT-Tranquility Software Tool is intended to provide a cascade effect when it is put in place in a school or district. Because the Tutorial materials are simple and designed to be used for teaching professionals who have little or no previous formal training in behavior management and theory, they allow even novice users to learn and apply effective skills almost immediately. One user in a school or district will quickly demonstrate measurable positive results, leading others to adopt the positive discipline techniques taught and reinforced by the software. This effect can be enhanced when the software is used as part of a school or district wide drive to increase positive discipline practices. The following articles and chapters review theory and practice related to the efficacy of positive behavior interventions such as those taught by the structured UBMT-Tranquility software tool.

and discipline problems: School wide positive behavior support.

Actual users appreciate the UBMT software--
"The Ultimate Behavior Management Tool program is the best I have used in keeping track of multi-student behavior contracts. The program is quick and easy to use. Parents are very satisfied with the printout they receive each week."
"The Ultimate Behavior Management Tool is one of the greatest resources to hit the market in a long time. This is a tool that is easy to use, very helpful, and could be utilized by both special educators and regular classroom teachers alike."
"My wife and I strongly support the efforts of Dr. Coyle in helping other families deal with not only a child that is having difficulties, but with that child's parents, as well. We have learned by using the tools of UBMT to approach our children in a new and relaxed way of dealing with a very stressful situation. Through UBMT, Dr. Coyle has laid the foundation that has helped our children learn how to deal with their emotions and that their behavior always has consequences - it is up to them to determine whether those are positive or not. We believe that UBMT has assisted us in providing sound guidelines to our children in the process of teaching them the essence of responsibility."
